Virtual race in Imola: the first participants are known!
Hardly had the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix been cancelled due to heavy storms in the Italian region, or social media was already calling for a virtual race to be organised. That is actually going to happen. Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly clear who will be at the start of the event on Sunday.
This Sunday at 2:30 pm UK time will see a sim race organised by Team Redline and Verstappen.com. Judging from Thursday night's tweet, it seems that the race will be held at an Italian circuit. It would make sense if that would be the Imola circuit, where actually Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 would be in action this weekend.
Famous names on the virtual grid
Several well-known drivers have already confirmed their participation. Among them are Antonio Felix da Costa (former Formula E champion), Jack Doohan (F2 and Alpine reserve driver), Richard Verschoor (F2), Gabriel Bortoleto (F3), Felipe Drogovich (F2 champion and Aston Martin reserve driver), Shane van Gisbergen (Australian Supercars), Oliver Rowland(Formula E), Luke Browning (F3) and Enzo Fittipaldi (F2).
Also taking part are Ayumu Iwasa (F2 and Red Bull junior), Isack Hadjar (F2 and also Red Bull junior), Jak Crawford (F2, Red Bull junior) and, of course, Max Verstappen.
Simraces from Team Redline join in
Of course, Team Redline drivers are also taking part in the race, the team announced via a Tweet:
Of course, our very own Team Redline drivers will be competing for the win this weekend in our REAL RACERS NEVER QUIT by https://t.co/0OIzjwNjt1 RACING
