There is enormous pressure on Nyck de Vries. The AlphaTauri driver has been told he will be given until the Spanish Grand Prix to prove himself. Former Formula 1 driver Jolyon Palmer tells The Monaco Preview Show on Formula 1's YouTube channel that he had expected more from the Dutchman.

After five races driven, De Vries still stands at zero points in his first season as a full-fledged driver in Formula 1. This is partly due to crashes and his slow AlphaTauri. In addition, the Dutchman has often been a lot slower than his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who managed to score two points so far this season.

'He has the talent'

Palmer is surprised by the former Formula 2 champion's lesser performance: "He's been slow and he's been crashing, which is a bad mix. But I still do think he's got talent there. I thought he'd come in and lead the team with Yuki there. We'd probably agree that Yuki looks like he's stepped up and has really taken it on with Gasly leaving the team. And I think that's probably caught Nyck out a little bit."
