Special memory for De Vries: 'Won my first F2 race here'
This coming weekend will see the Monaco Grand Prix. The famous race is a special moment every year. For Nyck de Vries, it will be his first time in Monaco as a Formula 1 driver.
The 28-year-old driver himself is really looking forward to it, as he told AlphaTauri' s preview ahead of the race weekend: "Monaco is one of the highlights of the season, something of a home race for me as I live there, and it’s also very special in terms of the track itself and the atmosphere over the weekend."
So far, the Dutchman's first full season is not running ideally. He is last in the championship with zero points and due to many crashes, the former Formula 2 champion is receiving a lot of criticism. In Monaco, the risk of crashing is even higher, as the streets are much narrower, and the crash barriers are much closer than at other circuits.
De Vries previously successful in Monaco
Nevertheless, the AlphaTauri driver has had success at the track before: "I’ve raced in Monaco before, in fact my first Formula 2 win came at the Sprint race there in 2017 and in 2019, I won the Feature race from pole position. It’s very special, but now being part of the main event in Monte Carlo is going to be very cool."
