De Vries confident about future at AlphaTauri: "It's just a matter of time"
Nyck de Vries has not made the dream start to his rookie season in Formula 1, but with only five races behind him, it is too early to draw conclusions. The Dutchman admits he has made a little too many mistakes so far, but stresses that it is a learning process.
Earlier, De Vries indicated that he is not surprised by all the rumours and speculation circulating about his future at AlphaTauri. The Dutchman knows only too well that everything is about delivering performance on the track and says that such speculations are just part of the game.
De Vries puts his own hand in his pocket
In addition, the 28-year-old Dutchman is not afraid to put his own hand in his heart. "I think I've made a little bit too many mistakes. I'm human, I make mistakes. I try to learn and move on," he acknowledged in conversation with Formula1.com. At the same time, he feels encouraged by the pace he has shown at times. "That also proves to me that the potential is there, and I personally believe it's a matter of time for things to come together," he added.
In the free weekend that suddenly appeared on his calendar due to the cancellation of the Imola Grand Prix, De Vries received little notice of all the speculation about his future in F1. "I'm very sorry for all the media that puts time and effort into writing and stuff, but I was on my piano and having lessons and going to the gym", the AlphaTauri driver said.
Along with fellow rookie Logan Sargeant, De Vries is the only one who has yet to score any points in the 2023 F1 season. However, it should be added that both drivers do not have equipment that would put a top-ten position just within reach. Also, their generally better-performing team-mates, Alexander Albon and Yuki Tsunoda, remain stuck on one and two points respectively.
