This coming weekend, the Spanish Grand Prix is already on the programme. After a chaotic end in Monaco, the teams are hardly getting any rest. Mika Hakkinen argues that Sergio Perez' s title chances are looking increasingly difficult.

In Monaco, Perez had a dramatic weekend. The Mexican crashed early in the first part of qualifying, forcing him to start Sunday's race from last position. In the race it did not go much better, Perez was involved in a lot of incidents and did not get beyond P16. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, had a great weekend. The Dutchman took pole position with a great last lap and did not relinquish this first place on Sunday.

Gap to Verstappen grows

Perez's disappointing weekend in Monaco means the Mexican is already 39 points behind his Red Bull Racing teammate in the championship. "He [Perez] will be looking for a perfect weekend in Spain if he is to challenge team mate Max Verstappen for the title. This is beginning to look very difficult, so it has never been more important for Sergio to refocus," Hakkinen told Unibet.

What can Alonso do?

Fernando Alonso is performing extremely well this season with five podium finishes from six races, however, this did not include a single victory. Hakkinen thinks the Spaniard has no real chance of winning in his home race either.

"In Barcelona Fernando will have a huge amount of home support, and this is a race he would love to win. No amount of enthusiasm from the local fans is going to make the Aston Martin as competitive as a Red Bull. However, if the Red Bulls have a bad day Fernando is ready to take the victory."
