Perez wants to beat Verstappen in Barcelona: 'Win is achievable'
Sergio Perez had a disastrous weekend in Monaco and therefore wants to start again in Barcelona, next weekend's Grand Prix. The Mexican argues that a victory is achievable at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Perez's weekend in Monaco was dramatic. The Mexican crashed early in qualifying, forcing him to start the race last on Sunday. Unfortunately for the Red Bull Racing driver, things did not go much better in the race and many incidents prevented the Mexican from getting beyond P16. Max Verstappen won the race and as a result, the gap between the teammates is now 39 points.
New start in Barcelona
In Barcelona, Perez wants to start again and put his disappointing Monaco weekend behind him. "Monaco was a disaster for me. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. So this weekend is all about starting again and making sure we get back to the high standards we have set all season. I want to repay my Team for all their hard work with a good result in Barcelona," Perez said in a press release from his team.
Perez wants to beat Verstappen
Perez's gap with Verstappen in the championship has increased dramatically after the weekend in Monaco, but the Mexican is not giving up yet. "I need to be consistent to maintain any pressure on Max in the Championship and I need to pick up some wins. If I can get it right here the win is achievable and that’s the aim, as always."
