'Hats off to Red Bull, our specialists will definitely look into it!'
Andrea Stella, McLaren team boss, has been watching Red Bull's floor with great interest. After Sergio Perez's crash in Monaco qualifying, his RB19 was hoisted up and photographers were able to take pictures of the Red Bull floor. Other teams watched with delight.
GPblog asked team bosses Andrea Stella (McLaren) and Fred Vasseur(Ferrari) if they could learn anything from the Red Bull floor. "I've had a quick look at it, but the 100 aerodynamicists at McLaren will be spending a little bit more time. It's very interesting indeed," laughed McLaren team boss Stella. "When I saw the floor I thought, 'hats off to Red Bull', I can understand why they have this kind of performance," the Italian sounded complimentary. "It just shows again the quality and complexity of their development."
McLaren, too, will soon hit the road with a hefty update package, Stella told earlier. According to the team boss, we may even talk about a 'B-version'. The folks from Woking will be looking at the Red Bull floor with an eye for inspiration, if Stella's words are to be believed.
Red Bull floor at Ferrari?
Fred Vasseur also looked at the floor with interest, but can't do much with it. "I think we all have a lot of pictures of other teams," laughs the Frenchman. "it's quite difficult or even impossible to try to copy something because it's more a global concept than something else." Ferrari came to Barcelona with new sidepods, although they won't make a world of difference according to the Ferrari man. The Italian racing stable is thus trying to find some more racing space to catch up with rival Red Bull. So a Red Bull floor is not the solution for now.
