Shovlin on Red bull floor: 'Suspect they will be looking more at that one'
In Monaco, there was little possibility of placing a stranded Formula 1 car behind a crash barrier. So there was not much choice but to move the car through the air with a large crane. As a result, the underside of the Mercedes was plain for all to see after Lewis Hamilton's minor crash. A Red Bull also went airborne. Sergio Perez saw his car pass high above everyone, much to the delight of the photographers as well as the other teams.
Photos of Red Bull floor
The F1 teams are only too keen to know the secret of that Red Bull Racing floor. "All teams will be looking at the photos and I suspect they will be looking more at the Red Bull ones," Mercedes' Andrew Shovlin told Sky Sports.
"You can get some ideas about what they're trying to do with flow structures and their development direction if you look at last year and this year. Those pictures can give you inspiration or an idea, it's not as simple as copy that put it on our car and we'll be as quick. You have to understand your own car."
Shovlin on target upgrades
In Monaco, Mercedes came up with a lot of upgrades on the car, but on such a unique circuit it is difficult to see what the exact performance of these will be. This weekend's circuit in Barcelona is well suited to that, Shovlin also knows. "We want to see what we get. We're hoping that we've improved the overall performance of the car just with more downforce. We are expecting to have to do a bit more work but really [it's about] getting that direction,"
