Verstappen confident: 'Normally we are quick'
- Cas van de Kleut
Max Verstappen will start this afternoon's Spanish Grand Prix from pole position. During qualifying, he was unbeatable. His teammate Sergio Perez was very disappointing. During the drivers parade broadcast live on the Formula 1 YouTube channel, both Red Bull drivers speak about their expectations for the race.
The Red Bull is also the car to beat for the competition this weekend. The Austrian racing stable has little to complain about, yet everyone in the team has to stay sharp, Verstappen says: "I don't expect us to have any problems with the tyres, but there is a little bit of rain around aswel, so we need to stay on top of everything with the strategy and we need to try and make no mistakes. So far of course the weekend has been good, the car has been really enjoyable to drive, so hopefully we can show that again in the race."
No worries for Sainz
Carlos Sainz starts second, and in his home race will still give everything to win. Nevertheless, the Dutchman is little worried about any overtaking from the Spaniard at the start of the race: "If we lose out on the start I don't think it's gonna be a big problem. We just need to keep the car in a good shape, and then we will normally be quick."
Hopes for podium for Perez
Despite the disappointing result in qualifying, team-mate Perez still holds out hope for a possible podium finish: "It is going to be difficult, but we are gonna give it all and try to get through the field and maximize the opportunity for the points today."
