Horner proud of Red Bull, which tops the stands despite handicap
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner faced a big challenge with his team this year. With reduced time in the wind tunnel, the Austrian racing stable had to build championship-winning car. they seem to have succeeded, Christian Horner also sees.
For every position a team eventually wins in the constructors' championship, teams lose a percentage of the amount of time a team gets in the wind tunnel the following year. So Red Bull has significantly less time in the wind tunnel this year than, let's say Williams. This is to level out the pace differences between the teams.
On top of that, the energy drink manufacturer has an additional time reduction as punishment for breaching the budget cap in 2021. This allows Red Bull to spend only 63 per cent of the stipulated time in the wind tunnel. This gives Aston Martin, for example, a big advantage at 100 per cent. Speaking to GPblog and others, the Briton talked about his team's development curve.
Horner on the competition
"The team are doing an incredible job, being extremely efficient," Horner stated. "You can see we've very subtly developed the car since Bahrain," says the team boss, who sees that the competition is not getting any closer for now. "We've seen others bringing significant upgrades now, and the margin has remained pretty much the same."
Horner is happy. "That's hugely encouraging to everybody in Milton Keynes," where the Red Bull factory is located. "They are doing a really outstanding job at the moment." No word on that seems to be a lie. For now, Red Bull has won every Grand Prix in 2023. Max Verstappen won five races, where teammate Sergio Perez contributed with the two wins.
