End of Mekies' tenure at Ferrari nears: This when is his last GP is
Some time ago, AlphaTauri announced it had recruited Laurent Mekies as a future team boss. However, the Frenchman will also be at the pit wall with his current employer this weekend. It seems that his tenure at Ferrari will soon come to an end.
Ferrari let it be known almost immediately after the switch was announced that the race director would not be allowed to leave for AlphaTauri until a mutually satisfactory deal was reached on the matter. Meanwhile, it looks like the most successful team in Formula 1 history is letting the Frenchman go after the Hungarian Grand Prix, according to the Italian version of Motorsport.
Ioverno there at the pit wall
During the Canadian Grand Prix, Mekies will be behind Ferrari's computer screens, with Diego Ioverno next to him. The latter would in turn help fill the gap Mekies will soon leave behind. In contrast to the current situation, Mekies' duties will be spread over two people in the future. Ioverno will fill in the sporting and organisational parts of the job, while a newcomer will take care of the politics involved in running an F1 team. Think about liaising with the FIA.
Vasseur will also start working more again in the coming period, after having to take it a little easier for a while due to severe back problems. For example, the team boss was at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last weekend, where he saw Ferrari win in the main category. With Vasseur fit again, it will be easier for Ferrari to let Mekies leave.
