Verstappen sees Monaco problems return: 'Work ahead'
- Toby McLuskie
Max Verstappen came to a sixth time in the second free practice for the Canadian Grand Prix. Verstappen drove the lap ahead of rivals but knows there is still plenty of work to do for Red Bull Racing in Montreal.
It was a strange start to the F1 weekend in Canada. The first free practice session was barely run due to a CCTV problem, so the second free practice session was brought forward to allow half an hour more practice time. However, that session could not be fully utilised either due to red flags and rain.
Verstappen knows there is work to be done
"It was not a normal Friday," Verstappen began to tell Verstappen.com about the first free practice in Montreal. "Fortunately, we were able to drive our laps in the second free practice. I think we still have work to do because the car is not really going well over kerbstones at the moment. It's not bad, but we still need to fine-tune some settings."
Verstappen revealed prior to the Friday sessions that that would be the biggest issue for the RB19. Red Bull also ran into those problems in Monaco, but the two-time world champion was hopeful that with the long straights, it would be more balanced in Canada. So for that, some more work needs to be done on the simulator.
"It was a somewhat difficult session, but sometimes you have those days. We know what the weaker points of our car are and the kerbstones that are here don't suit our car. We will try to improve that for tomorrow." Meanwhile, rain is also lurking and so Verstappen expects an interesting qualifying session.
