Verstappen after dominant performance: 'That's why the gap wasn't that big'
Barely was Max Verstappen in sight at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. The Dutchman drove away at the start and the competition barely saw him again. Verstappen looks back on his sixth win of this F1 season after the race.
After a strong qualifying session, Verstappen's lead hardly came into question. Max had a good start and also had no problems at the restart after the safety car. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will have really tried, but they never came close. Much to the Red Bull Racing driver's satisfaction.
Verstappen the best in Canada
'Very happy right now. It wasn't a very straightforward race, because the tyres weren't really getting in their window. It was very cold today compared to Friday and we were sliding around quite a bit. To win the 100 Grand Prix for the team is incredible,'' Max let us know after the race.
''It's amazing! I never expected to be on these kind of numbers as well. We keep on enjoying, we keep working hard. Today has been a great day as well. I expected more to less this today, but it was hard to keep grip in the tyres. The grip was disappearing quickly, maybe that's the gap wasn't that big, we had a few safety cars here and there. Overall we won, that's the most important thing.''
Verstappen also had a nice word for the Canadian fans in closing. ''They are so passionate about the sport. Allso yesterday with the rain they were just hanging. We love coming here, hopefully we can come here more.''
