Verstappen jokes about new contract: 'Need to talk about it'
Max Verstappen has won his 41st F1 victory, equalling Ayrton Senna. The lists generally do not do much for Verstappen and he therefore does not want to compare himself to the Brazilian legend.
It took Verstappen 171 Grands Prix to equal Senna, who needed nine fewer races for the same number of victory. This puts Verstappen in the top five F1 drivers with the most wins. However, Verstappen himself attaches little value to this.
Verstappen wins for Red Bull
''I mean I hate to compare different generations. From my side the only thing I can say is that when I was a little kid driving a go-karting I was dreaming about being a Formula One driver and I would have never imagined to win 41 Grands Prix. So of course to tie with Ayrton is something incredible and of course I'm proud of that. But of course I hope it's not stopping here. I hope that we can keep on winning more races,'' Verstappen said at the press conference after the Canadian Grand Prix.
With his 41st victory, Verstappen also gave his team its 100th win. Red Bull Racing debuted in F1 in 2005 and has managed to win many races and titles in a short time. With 41 wins, Verstappen also has his fair share of trophies.
''Yeah I mean I've won 41 of them. We'll talk about maybe a new contract because of that,'' joked Verstappen. ''No, it's honestly a great achievement for the team. You know we knew that this was the first opportunity of course to do so and I'm happy that that's done. We've won 100 but again I hope we win more than 100. So the new target is 200.'', concluded the two-time world champion.
