Perez ecstatic with podium finish in Austria: 'I'm really happy'
- Toby McLuskie
Sergio Perez drove an excellent race today in the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, as he ended up third and on the podium after starting in 15th. After the race, the Mexican explained how happy he was with the drive, speaking to David Coulthard in the pit lane.
"Yeah man, I'm really happy you know, it's been a very difficult week for me personally," he said before adding: "Physically I have been really weak, I was sick on Thursday so it hasn't been an easy weekend. [I've had a] high fever and no sleep during the weekend, so [it was] great recovery from the team and a fantastic strategy, we have great pace."
When questioned about his continuous battle with Carlos Sainz around the Red Bull Ring, the Mexican sang his praises, saying: "Yeah it was very hard but fair, like you said, always a pleasure to race them. The Ferrari were very strong, especially in the low-speed corners, they were having very good traction, but it's a good comeback."
To finish Perez looked ahead to Silverstone and shared his thoughts, "it's been a bit of a rough patch for me so now hopefully we are back and we can keep that consistency now."
