Windsor on Max Verstappen victory: 'A professional performance'
- Cas van de Kleut
Following his victory at the Red Bull Ring, Max Verstappen has now won five races in a row. The Dutchman was even able to go in for the fastest lap just before the end as he had enough margin over Charles Leclerc. Peter Windsor is impressed with the Red Bull driver, he says in his race analysis on YouTube.
Once again, Verstappen was supreme this weekend. At the end of every session, the Dutchman was first, and especially during the sprint race and the main race, he was incredibly dominant. "That was a very professional and very classy performance by Max Verstappen," Windsor stated
'Courageous decision'
Verstappen stayed out on the virtual safety car on the 12th lap, unlike Charles Leclerc, who was driving behind the Dutchman. Windsor explained that he feels Red Bull had guts to leave him outside: "To have the race leader stay out when everybody around you is coming in is quite a brave decision. It looked like that at the time, but Red Bull and Max just stuck with their strategy, mediums to hards and back to mediums, the one recommended by Pirelli, ad so it proved, it was perfect for winning the race."
Fastest lap
At the end of the race, Verstappen wanted to go for the fastest lap, so he went in to change to softs to have another chance at that fastest lap. "We all knew what he was thinking, 'Give me a chance at the fastest lap,' because at that moment, on hard tyres, on his last new set of hard tyres, his teammate Perez had set the fastest lap of the race. He had something like 22 seconds on Charles Leclerc before the pit stop, and I think that says everything about Max's drive today."
