Verstappen follows in Schumacher and Hamilton's footsteps by Austrian win
- Sam Godber
Max Verstappen won another Grand Prix with supremacy in Austria and the Dutchman seems hard to stop at the moment in Formula 1. With this win, Verstappen has achieved something special, which only Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have done before.
Verstappen does what Hamilton and Schumacher did
With his victory in Austria, Verstappen recorded his fifth win in a row in Formula 1. The Dutchman won all Grands Prix starting from Miami in 2023. This is the second time the two-time world champion has won (at least) five Grands Prix in a row. Verstappen's previous run of victories came last year; the Red Bull Racing driver won all races from the race in France to the race in Italy. Only two other drivers ever in F1 managed to achieve this: Hamilton and Schumacher.
Hamilton managed to do this in his 2014 and 2020 championship winning years. Both times, the Briton won five races in a row. With the latter, Hamilton's run ended in Bahrain, where the seven-time world champion was not allowed to participate because he had the corona virus. Schumacher managed to win five or more races in a row no less than three times. The German did this twice in 2004 and once between the years 2000 and 2001. Schumacher never got beyond seven consecutive victories. The record for most wins in a row is held by Sebastian Vettel with nine, in 2013.
