De Vries doesn't care about F1 news: 'I don't read it'
For Dutch F1 driver Nyck de Vries, his entire F1 debut in 2023 is dominated by the high expectations he has yet to live up to. What does that do to the AlphaTauri driver and how does he deal with it? In the UK, De Vries talked about it.
The Formula 2 and Formula E champion's expectations were sky-high when he stepped into the AlphaTauri F1 car in early 2023. With a scoreless season of nine races, those expectations have yet to be met. Were the expectations too high? "Sometimes things are written and said that create a certain storyline. A day later it's the opposite, in the end I don't really concern myself with it," De Vries said in conversation with GPblog and others.
De Vries addresses the media: "From one moment to the next, the perception of you can change and therefore of those who are watching. That is inherent in this world. In itself that doesn't surprise me, because it has always been like that. You do have to protect and close yourself off a bit for that."
How does De Vries do that? "Not reading anything. I love our sport, I have a lot of passion and I really enjoy following all the other classes. I do that less now because it is inevitable to avoid Formula 1 news when you are reading and looking for news from other racing classes."
