Sergio Perez could not keep up with Max Verstappen with times on the track during the first day of racing. Where Verstappen recorded the fastest time in both FP1 and FP2, Perez finished second in the first free practice and fourth in the second free practice. Despite not being able to keep up with the Dutchman, the Mexican speaks of a positive first day in England.

"I think it's been a very interesting day, trying this new compound, new construction and basically learning from them has been very interesting so I think it's going to be a long night tonight, trying to figure out where is the best to operate the tyres," Perez told reporters after his first two free practice sessions.

Perez after FP1 and FP2

Perez has recently faced a lot of criticism for his performance in Formula 1 currently. The 33-year-old driver is pleased with the car he drove the first two free practice sessions in.

"I think the car is feeling good, we made some good progress from FP1 onto FP2 so I'm pleased with it, hopefully tomorrow we can make another step and fight for pole that will be ideal."
