Albers sees Verstappen dominance in F1: 'Still plenty to enjoy'
- Toby McLuskie
It should be no secret that Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen are überdominant in the current Formula 1 season. Already the question reigns who can keep Verstappen from his third world championship. Christijan Albers also sees that Verstappen and Red Bull are hardly unstoppable.
"It was to be expected that there will be complaints here and there about Red Bull's dominance, especially Max Verstappen. There is still plenty to enjoy, but of course the pinnacle is a year like 2021 with such an exciting battle for the title. Only at the time, I was also aware that this was an exception. The fact that one team is dominant is also far from new of course," Albers told De Telegraaf in his column.
Verstappen at Silverstone
Ahead of the British Grand Prix, Verstappen can therefore be called the big favourite. Nine races have been held this season and the Dutch driver managed to win seven of them. The other two races went to teammate Sergio Perez. We will know on Sunday whether Verstappen can win the race at the characteristic Silverstone.
Albers is very appreciative of this weekend's circuit. "At Silverstone, a Formula 1 car really comes to life. This is finally another circuit where such a car comes into its own given the downforce levels. I can definitely recommend every racing fan to go to Silverstone at least once. It is a special circuit, in beautiful surroundings," the 44-year-old Albers explained.
