Vasseur hopes Ferrari can win a race: 'Then you compete'
Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur thinks his team can still win a race this year. The Frenchman also thinks his team has taken a small step forward with the update package presented in Spain.
The Ferrari is not an easy car to drive, if the words of drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are to be believed. At Silverstone, the wind also played its part. "The wind was extreme, today it was the same as Miami, but the performance was much better than Miami, but for sure the car was unstable," said Vasseur. It has now been four Grands Prix since the Italians presented a major update package in Barcelona. It seems to have paid off. "In Montreal we had our best performance, when we were able to get close to the podium from P11," states the Ferrari man, who believes the team has also made another step forward at Silverstone.
Can Ferrari win a race?
But can the Maranello-based stable win another race this year? "If you finish second in Austria, you can always expect to win," Vasseur argues. "We all want to win a race, including Mercedes, Aston Martin and McLaren. But first we want to become the fastest of that group." The former Alfa Romeo team boss thinks Ferrari's package could do well in Hungary in a fortnight's time, provided the team has the set-up right.
