Sainz prefers Hamilton to Verstappen: 'I would like Lewis'
- Toby McLuskie
Carlos Sainz is now in his third season driving for Ferrari. The Spaniard was a teammate of Max Verstappen earlier in his career. In 2015, Verstappen and Sainz both featured in the Toro Rosso. Who would Sainz rather see as a teammate in Formula 1? Would it be Verstappen or still Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton? Sainz makes the choice and explains.
"I've already been Max's team-mate, so I know I would get on well with him and we would have a good [relationship]," Sainz said in an interview with Daily Express. " I've never been team-mates with Lewis, but I guess being a team-mate of a seven-time world champion has to be good for your career and you're probably going to learn," he added.
Who would Sainz rather have as a teammate in Formula 1?
In the end, Sainz cut the knot and chose one of the two drivers. "Just to try something different, I would like Lewis. But honestly, I don't care. Whoever I have as a team-mate, I'll embrace it" the Ferrari driver told reporters.
Whether Sainz will soon embrace Verstappen or Hamilton as a teammate seems highly unlikely. Although there were rumours earlier in the season that Hamilton would leave for Ferrari, these have since been debunked. Besides, both Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc have contracts that do not expire until the end of 2024.
