Silly season for Hamilton: 'If Ferrari fails? Red Bull doesn’t have a seat’
- Sam Godber
Where will seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton drive next year? The bullet is still not out. Positive noises are still ringing out from the Mercedes camp, although the Brit is still being linked with a sensational switch to Ferrari. So is Red Bull still an outsider? Peter Windsor thinks so on his YouTube channel.
The silence from Hamilton and Mercedes, following the announcement that a contract extension was imminent, is fuelling speculation about the record chaser's future. Former F1 manager Peter Windsor thinks so. He suspects Hamilton will opt for Mercedes. "Then if he doesn’t go to Ferrari and all the chaos, where is he going to go? He’s not going to get a Red Bull seat so he might as well stay where he is," his countryman argues.
Hamilton to Ferrari?
Windsor does not see why Ferrari would be attractive to Hamilton. "Obviously he did work with Fred Vasseur in his Formula 3 days and knows him and Fred would have put out the feelers to him." The F1 analyst thinks the 103-time race winner is trying to convince himself to sign with Mercedes:"I think Lewis is sort of talking himself into staying at Mercedes, isn’t he?"
The German racing team is currently second in the constructors' championship, partly due to the 121 points collected by Hamilton. The Briton is fourth in the drivers' championship.
