Perez puts pressure on himself: 'Hungary is an important race for me'
Things are not exactly going smoothly yet this season for Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. Especially on Saturday, the Mexican has underperformed, resulting in lower results on Sunday. In Hungary, the 33-year-old driver will get another chance to prove himself. He too can see for himself what needs to be improved.
Hungarian Gp will be important for Perez
"Hungary is an important race for me, because it’s about getting my whole weekend in a complete place. I know I have fallen short in qualifying at times this season, so my focus has to be on having a successful Saturday because I know I have the race pace on a Sunday and an incredible car that should be on the podium every weekend," Perez said in previewing the weekend in Hungary.
Despite the week without a race, Perez has not been sitting still, he explains. "I have been in Milton Keynes working hard with my Team on making improvements. I spent the off weekend also in an F1 car," Perez says. Indeed, he drove the Red Bull Showrun in Madrid.
Perez compared to Verstappen
Perez is still second in the Formula 1 world championship, but is a street length behind Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has scored 99 more points this season. Perez does still have a lead over number three Fernando Alonso. This lead amounts to 19 points.
