'Put them all in the same car and Verstappen is the fastest too'
Franz Tost is in his final season as team boss in Formula 1. So far, that last year seems to be going out like a night candle, but the Austrian can look back on a wonderful career. Tost worked with many drivers and is still particularly fond of Max Verstappen.
From day one, Tost was there when Red Bull started its second F1 team in Formula 1. After Jaguar had already been renamed Red Bull Racing, Minardi was renamed Toro Rosso a year later in 2006. Tost became the team boss of this training team and did not leave. At the end of this year, the Austrian will bid farewell.
Tost big fan of Verstappen
Tost worked with great drivers over the years. Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo all worked under Tost first, before being allowed to make the move to Red Bull Racing. Verstappen only worked with Tost for a year, but left a great impression.
"Getting into Formula 1 is one thing, but how a driver develops afterwards, you only see that during the season. Max is the best example of it. A driver with insane natural speed who has been optimally prepared for the big time by his father. He is the best of the whole field. Put them all in the same car and Max is at the front," said the AlphaTauri team boss in conversation with De Limburger.
Verstappen does not even need that at the moment to prove he is the best F1 driver. In fact, together with Red Bull Racing, Verstappen has already won six Grands Prix in a row and the team even seems to be on its way to a historic run of 12 wins in a row. That could happen this weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
