Leclerc after podium at Spa: 'Going into summer break with smile on face'
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc goes into the summer break feeling good. In an interview with Sky Sports, the Monegasque says that third place in Sunday's race is a positive boost for him and the rest of the team. However, the podium finish does not remove all his worries for the rest of the season.
Charles Leclerc took third place in the main race at Spa, finishing behind the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. After the race, Leclerc stated that earning that final podium finish is a boost for the whole team. "It's really important. It gives me, and the guys at the factory and track, a smile to go into the summer break with a race like this," said the Ferrari driver. With a third place at Spa, Leclerc also took over fifth place in the drivers' championship from George Russell.
That a third place suddenly solves all problems for Ferrari is, of course, not the case. Leclerc also admits this frankly. At the Belgian Grand Prix, the Ferrari once again struggled with race pace that was quite inferior to Red Bull's, as well as relatively high tyre wear. "It's not a completely happy face because we are still very far from Red Bull, and this is our target. On the other hand, after such a difficult first part of the season, it's good to finish this half that way," said the Monegasque.
