Helmut Marko comes up with tip for Andretti-Cadillac: 'Buy Alpine!'
- Sam Godber
It has long been known that Andretti-Cadillac wants to make an entry into Formula 1, the only question is how. An eleventh team in Formula 1 has long been under discussion, especially the current F1 teams seem to be against it. Helmut Marko comes up with an interesting suggestion for the Andretti-Cadillac team.
Marko tips Andretti-Cadillac
The new American team has already applied to the FIA to race with its own team in F1 from 2026. The motorsport body seems fine with an eleventh team on the F1 grid, but many teams do not see this due to financial reasons. Red Bull Racing consultant Marko has a solution where Andretti can enter F1 without an eleventh team at the start.
"They should buy Alpine! That would be best for everyone. Formula 1 keeps its ten teams, Andretti could finally enter and Renault could still be involved," the Austrian told German Sport1. The US team has already invested tens of millions in the project for its own F1 team.
Void at Alpine
At France's Alpine, things are currently chaotic, with team boss Otmar Szafnauer leaving, as well as two other leading figures. The exits at Alpine were previously linked to a possible takeover by the American team. Renault confirmed back in February, that should Andretti-Cadillac make an entry, they will supply engines to the new team. So Helmut Marko's suggestion is certainly not unthinkable.
