Vettel denies rumours: 'I am not considering a comeback'
The rumours were already debunked by the team boss of ABT Cupra, competing in Formula E. Now Sebastian Vettel also comes out with a statement: No, the four-time world champion is not planning to race for the German team in the electric class.
It was initially a remarkable piece of news. Asked by a German website about who would be the possible successor to Robin Frijns at ABT's modest FE team, team boss Thomas Biermaier philosophised about a Swiss-based driver who championed the environment. The journalist asked if this was Sebastian Vettel? Biermaier called him a dream candidate.
Vettel clarifies his position
After the story about a possible return of Vettel to motorsport found its way around the internet, the ABT Cupra team boss nevertheless felt it necessary to provide further clarification. He explained that the statements about Vettel had been put in his mouth and there were no talks at all, let alone a deal.
Motorsport.com received a statement from Vettel, in which he also denied that he will make his comeback. "I am not in negotiations to drive in Formula E with ABT Cupra or with any other team. Words have been put in my mouth and I would like to clarify that I am not currently considering a return to motorsport," the German said.
