Sainz realistic: 'Stop expecting wins and podiums'
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz does not consider it realistic for Ferrari to compete for wins this season. Nor should fans really have any more expectations about the Scuderia achieving podium finishes, Sainz indicated to Motorsport-Total. The Spaniard wants Ferrari and its fans to accept that they are not currently the best team on the grid.
Sainz currently occupies seventh place in the world championship. While teammate Charles Leclerc managed three more podiums, Sainz did not. The one-time race winner states: "We now need to score as many points as possible for the constructors' championship and stop expecting a win or a podium finish." According to Sainz, Ferrari needs to focus on making good decisions and their consistency for the rest of this season.
Sainz: 'Celebrating reaching the maximum possible'
Ferrari has been unable to connect with Red Bull all season. The Italian team is currently in a fierce battle to be the second team on the grid. In doing so, they face competition from the likes of Mercedes and McLaren. Sainz therefore calls for understanding from the team and fans:"We have to accept that we are in this situation at the moment. If fifth place is the maximum for us, then we have to celebrate that we have achieved the maximum with this year's material."
