Aston Martin falls back but: 'The upgrades on the car, they do work'
Aston Martin were tremendously fast at the start of the season. The British team was clearly the second team behind the dominant Red Bull Racing. By now, however, Aston Martin are no longer that, with their race pace slowly being overtaken by Ferarri, Mercedes, and McLaren. But according to team boss Mike Krack, this has nothing to do with the upgrades made to the AMR23, as they are working as expected.
Aston Martin falls back
At the start of the season, Fernando Alonso grabbed podium after podium. But after Canada, the team seems to lack speed. In Montreal, Aston Martin did still come up with a major upgrade for the car. In all Grands Prix after Canada, both Alonso and Lance Stroll have not come close to the podium, with their best placings since that Grand Prix being fifth place.
Aston Martin brought upgrade in Canada
According to Krack, his team's decline has nothing to do with the upgrade in Canada. "The upgrades we have put on the car have worked, and the numbers are where they should be. But I think the results over the last few races are representative of where we are," the team boss said on the Aston Martin website.
"Events like Monaco and Canada were outliers – they masked the weaknesses – and because we did well in those events, expectations ramped up only for the disappointment to be bigger at Barcelona, Austria, Silverstone and Budapest when we couldn't achieve such top results."
