Leclerc explains crash: Ferrari car "is extremely difficult to drive"
Charles Leclerc crashed out of qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver blamed the car for this crash and confrims he "can't wait" for the Italian team to deliver a different car for the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Leclerc didn't have the easiest qualifying session, and was under pressure to escape Q1. It got slightly better in Q2 but Leclerc crashed in Q3 with four minutes remaining. Leclerc immediatly knows where the problem lies.
"It's one of those weekends where the car is extremely difficult to drive. Since FP1 we've been struggling in Turn 1, 9 and 10. We changed the car completely and honestly, there's not much that helps us in these three corners. There's absolutely no grip in the corner for whatever reason. I think we've had that plenty of times this year. But it's just the car this weekend that is extremely difficult to drive. In Formula 1 it's all about anticipating and knowing what balance you are going to get once you get into the corner. But at the moment I'm getting into the corner and I have zero idea whether I'm going to have a huge understeer or a huge oversteer," Leclerc explained in conversation with GPblog and others.
Brand new car for 2024
On Friday, Enrico Cardile explained that the 2024 Ferrari car will be very different. This gives Leclerc some relief but knows he will have to complete the upcoming 10 races first.
"It's great to hear that. Obviously, I can't wait. But first I've got a season to finish in 2023. We can only go in another direction because at the moment, because as soon as you get close to the limit, you just really don't know what's going to happen. That's exactly what happened in my Q3 lap so it's a difficult situation," Leclerc added.
Leclerc went on to confirm that he and teammate Carlos Sainz will do all they can to improve the car for 2024.
