Verstappen secured the best starting position for the race after an exciting qualifying session in varying conditions. Saturday's session started wet, and the Red Bull Racing driver was less than pleased with the grip of his RB19 in the first few minutes, but after a few laps he had fully recovered his form.
However, the Dutchman was made difficult in Q1 and Q2 by McLaren driver Lando Norris and Williams driver Alexander Albon. However, on a drying track in Q3, which was interrupted twice by a red flag caused by Logan Sargeant and Charles Leclerc respectively, Verstappen was untouchable and drove away from the eventual number two, Norris by more than half a second.
