'Wolff's comment about Max's record was a bit churlish, not gracious'
- Sam Godber
Toto Wolff caused a stir with a cynical remark to Max Verstappen after he recorded a record-breaking tenth consecutive win at Monza. Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill was unapologetic about the Mercedes team boss's words, he revealed to Sky Sports.
Never before has a Formula 1 driver won as many as 10 races in a row. Max Verstappen did it at Monza. The Dutchman thus broke the record of Sebastian Vettel, who once managed to bag nine Grands Prix in a row for Red Bull. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff reacted somewhat cynically to the two-time world champion's feat, stating in conversation with Sky Sports that it is"only for Wikipedia, which nobody reads anyway."
'Verstappen is special'
Hill was unapologetic about Wolff's remark. "It was a bit churlish, not very gracious, and unlike Toto Wolff, because he is usually very sporting," the Briton stated. "They seem to be a bit stymied and can't seem to work out what to do, but who can?," the 1996 champion said of the German racing stable, which has yet to claim a victory this season. The former Williams driver thinks Red Bull can win all the races this season. "They've won 14 races this year and it's an incredible record, but you can't just put it down to the car. This guy is special."
