Theory | Off-weekend for Red Bull Racing is not due to new TD
- Marcel Weideman
For the first time in years, no Red Bull driver could be found in the top ten after qualifying in Singapore. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez struggled with a poorly controllable RB19 and came no further than 11th and 13th places. Coincidence or not, Singapore is the first race weekend after the FIA issued a new technical directive.
The technical directive has been issued to ensure that flexi-wings will definitely become a thing of the past in Formula 1. The new TD allows the FIA to carry out stricter tests on the wings, putting an end to the use of flexi-wings once and for all. Just after the TD was issued, the Red Bull RB19 does not seem to be going anywhere. But, the question is: Is this because of the new technical directive?
Red Bull and Verstappen deny impact of TD
Red Bull and Max Verstappen are already denying this themselves. Team boss Christian Horner also stated directly after qualifying that this is absolutely not the result of the technical directive. Horner indicated that nothing was changed to the RB19 after the TD, but that it was merely due to a wrong set-up. After all, Red Bull had been looking forward to the race for some time, and Singapore was another weekend of problems for the Milton Keynes-based team in 2022. In addition, the circuit in Singapore is also a track with completely different characteristics from other tracks, one that cannot really be compared to previous races.
GPblog is very curious about the readers' opinions. Therefore, the statement is: The off-weekend Red Bull Racing is not due to the new TD. Vote for this proposition at the bottom of this article and let us know what you think about it.
