Fernando Alonso had a race to forget in Singapore. While the Spaniard seemed to have speed in other sessions, everything went wrong in the race. Teammate Lance Stroll did not even start the race due to a heavy qualifying crash. Alonso hopes the bad luck of Singapore is behind him and sets his sights on a good result in Japan.

Alonso on Singapore: 'It was not our weekend in the end'

The weekend in Singapore will prefer to be forgotten as soon as possible by the entire Aston Martin team. Alonso did not have a good weekend, stating,"We had high hopes for Singapore due to the nature of the circuit as it often throws up unpredictable results, but it was not our weekend in the end. We suffered with a damaged suspension fairing from the second lap of the race, which impacted our performance and made the race difficult for us."

The 42-year-old Alonso reveals that the team is only learning and improving for the upcoming races and is especially happy that teammate Lance Stroll is okay again after a heavy crash in qualifying. "Hopefully we have got rid of all our bad luck in Singapore, and we will look to bounce back and be better in Japan," said the Aston Martin driver.

'Weather at Suzuka could make for chaotic races'

Alonso is looking forward to racing at Suzuka again:"It’s a great circuit to race on with a lot of history and passionate fans, so I’m looking forward to it. It always provides good wheel-to-wheel racing." Where Aston Martin stands in Japan, the Oviedo-based man dares not yet say. "We are going into this weekend cautiously. Let’s see where we are come Saturday. The weather also is unpredictable at this time of year and that can throw up some chaotic races," Alonso said.

Finally, Alonso speaks out about the remaining seven races of the 2023 season. He sees some seven more challenging races coming up at circuits that differ in many ways. Alonso sets the goal:"We want to bounce back with some strong points finishes after two difficult weekends in Monza and Singapore. We are seeing the competitive order change from race to race more so than ever before. We will keep fighting."
