Fernando Alonso started the 2023 season excellently with a host of podiums. However, Aston Martin's form now seems to have weakened somewhat, often leaving a podium far out of reach. However, the Spaniard wants to know nothing of the negativity, saying that "people only see what they want to see". In addition, Alonso also says that a win in 2023 could also just come from an unexpected quarter.

Alonso hugely satisfied with Aston Martin season

In 2022, Alonso decided to leave Alpine for Aston Martin, something that was unexpected. However, at the start of the season it proved to be an excellent choice, with the two-time world champion finishing second and third on several occasions. As the season progressed, Aston Martin does seem to have fallen further and further back.

However, according to Alonso, it is still a great season and by no means a disappointing one: "You may have that feeling, but within the team it is fortunately not so. We are much more pragmatic and have a much more general view of the season. If you see where we were last year, both me with Alpine and Aston in 2022, now we are fourth in the drivers' championship fighting with Hamilton. To take such a step is special. Anyone who sees something negative this year is because they want to see it. It is very difficult to take anything negative out of this season," the Spaniard told AS.com.

At Zandvoort, Alonso was last on the podium and that was just three races ago. Despite that, Alonso often seems to be told that the season is no longer going so well. "I think it's unfortunate that this feeling remains. We always look at the last race. If we got the only podium of the season in Abu Dhabi, everyone would say it was a good year. And if we get eight podiums this year, we finish third or fourth in the drivers' world championship, and I retire in Abu Dhabi, it looks like it has been a bad season."
