Verstappen: 'I don't know who came up with that, but I don't like it'
Max Verstappen has won so many races in the 2023 Formula 1 season that a meme has emerged in which the cooldown room has been turned into a studio. Verstappen is the host, the other two podium finishers are guests on 'his podcast'. However, it now turns out: Verstappen does not like podcasts at all.
In the cooldown room after the Japan Grand Prix, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri joked about the 'Max Verstappen podcast' they were the 'guests' today. In response, the Dutchman stated that he is not actually a fan of podcasts at all.
Verstappen does not like podcasts
In the press conference, Verstappen was asked about the moment. "Yes, I don't even know who came up with that because I don't even like podcasts. They make me fall asleep," the race winner laughs. "I don't know, maybe we can call it something different or come up with something a bit more fun."
Piastri jumped on that quickly: "I was just happy to be a guest," said the McLaren driver, to which Verstappen replied with saying he is welcome as a guest anywhere. Just preferably not at a podcast, that is. "You can be a guest of anything. I mean, it's nice. I think it's natural, right? When you see some footage of the race, then you talk about it as drivers too quickly when you see some shots. It's just nowadays everything gets recorded. Fortunately, when the camera is there, you can't say everything you want to say," said the Red Bull Racing driver.
