Aston Martin seems to have dropped back a bit compared to the rest of the field in the last few races. After a lot of podium finishes at the beginning of the season, the British team did not get beyond eighth place in the last three races. Fernando Alonso is not mourning that, stating that his team knew it would be difficult to maintain good form.

Aston Martin not keeping up with development race

At the start of the 2023 season, Aston Martin was surprisingly the second team behind the dominant Red Bull Racing. However, the team now seems to have been overtaken by Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren. "We definitely need to improve the car further. All teams bring improvements throughout the year and maybe we have brought a little less than other teams," Alonso began to AS.com.

Alonso saw setback coming

According to Alonso in not weird that Aston Martin could bring fewer upgrades than its competitors. "It is normal because we do not yet have the capabilities of the most 'top' teams. It didn't take Mercedes much time, Ferrari took a bit longer and also McLaren is very strong now. We have to accept it, raise our level and accelerate our development pace."

"It all falls so close together because we haven't got us that much , but we started very strong. We were the second team in the first races and we knew it was going to be very difficult to hold on to that," Alonso indicated that he did see Aston Martin's current performance coming.
