Chandhok impressed: 'Verstappen can compete with the very best'
- Cas van de Kleut
Max Verstappen could win his third world championship in Qatar. The Dutchman has won 13 out of 16 races in 2023, and it looks like it will be some time before anyone starts having the opportunity to consistently beat him. Karun Chandhok tells OLBG that he thinks Verstappen is going to be one of the greatest drivers of all time.
Until 2020, Verstappen was seen as a driver who would become world champion if only he had the right car to do so. In 2021, he got that car, and after a great battle for the world title with Lewis Hamilton, the Red Bull driver prevailed. As of 2022, so far no one is even close to the Dutchman, and so things are looking bright for anyone who is a fan of Verstappen.
Is Verstappen one of the best F1 drivers of all time?
In fact, Chandhok is already comparing the championship leader to the absolute greats of Formula 1: "I think Max is, in terms of natural talent, up there with the absolute best we've ever seen in the sport, along with Ayrton Senna, Jim Clark, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost."
"I'm not a big fan of using stats to tell the story, it's one part of the equation," the former Formula One driver continued. "Clark raced in a dangerous era, won two championships and never had the chance to carry on, Senna, likewise, didn't get the chance to finish the '94 season. Max Verstappen is, unquestionably, on his way to becoming one of the all-time greats."
