Team principals on incredible Red Bull: ‘We’re not doing a good enough job’

Red Bull have already secured the constructors' championship in Japan, and on this Saturday in Qatar, Max Verstappen can also win his third world title in Formula 1. Team principals Frederic Vasseur, Andrea Stella and James Vowles all commented on Red Bull's outstanding season.

Frederic Vasseur could only praise their rival in Qatar. "They didn't give up so many points, that was incredible. Even when they had a tough qualifying, they were able to come back. And for me, it doesn't matter if they are champions on Saturday or Sunday. I think they did a mega job. But on the other hand, I think that the championship is a very good one. It's not because Max will be champion this weekend or not, that it's changing something. We have three, four, five teams able to be on the front row. And it was not very often that we had this kind of situation. It's just pushing everybody to do a better job next year," Ferrari’s team principal commented.

McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella said the sprint weekend can be a little inconvenient for Red Bull, but would not mind if his team were in that position. "In terms of the sprint event, that's potentially an unintended consequence of this format, which I'm sure will be considered. Though, I would like to be in that position and have this kind of problem that it's on a Saturday."

Vowles also only could praise both Red Bull and Max Verstappen. "I think it says we're not doing a good enough job. That’s the reality behind it. They've made an exceedingly strong car all year round and Max has been at another level of maturity this year and that's the result of it. But that's on our shoulders to do a better job and catch up with them. Obviously it's easy to say I'm further back than the rest of my colleagues on this sofa, but I think it represents a driver that is absolutely in his element maturing every year and a team that is also doing the same," the Briton said.
