Newey wins his 25th F1 championship: 'This has been one of the easiest'
On the Saturday of the Grand Prix weekend in Qatar, Max Verstappen won his third world title, this also saw top designer Adrian Newey win yet another title. The chief designer of Red Bull Racing's dominant RB19 has won no fewer than 25 F1 world championships after the two titles in 2023. According to Newey, this was one of the easiest championships to win.
Verstappen and Red Bull champion again
In 2022, Verstappen and Red Bull were already the strongest and this year proved that they could do even better. The Dutchman clinched the championship after the sprint race in Qatar, equalling Michael Schumacher. One Grand Prix earlier, Red Bull had already secured the constructors' championship, even setting a record. Newey spoke out in Qatar about the successful year.
"This has been one of the easiest, one of the less stressful ones. That's for sure. We have developed a really great technical team over the years. We've managed to keep a good level of stability within our engineering team and that obviously helps. We have tried to run a flat structure and encourage cross communication. We try to make it a fun place to work," the Briton told Sky Sports.
Newey praises Verstappen
According to the successful F1 designer, Verstappen is a hugely special driver. "Well you're comparing different cars and different generations. The thing I observe from the really great drivers, is their ability to make it feel like they're driving the car on automatic. That leaves them plenty of processing power to think about how they're using tyres, how the race is unfolding, when they should push, when they should hold back. Max is exceptional in that."
