F1 Academy enters partnership for greater equity among young drivers
The F1 Academy - the Formula discipline that aims to increase women's opportunities at the highest level of motorsport - is entering into a new partnership to support the opportunities of female racing talents from an early age. The F1 Academy will partner with new karting championship, Champions of the Future (COTF).
F1 Academy steps into karting to increase chances of female racing talent
This new karting discipline is being created with a view to improving the chances of young drivers making it to the top in motorsport. The competition will promote the participation of female drivers around the world and will also ensure that the money to be laid down for participation will be acceptable.
The new karting championship will feature three categories: Minis (eight years old to 11 years old), Juniors (11 years old to 14 years old) and Seniors (14 years old to 17 years old). The categories are mixed gender and the championship will consist of six race weekends with two races each. At least one race will be held outside Europe.
The F1 Academy will place three female drivers in each category who will compete under the F1 Academy banner with equal livery and overall. These participants will also be financially supported by F1 Academy. In addition, the top three female drivers in the Seniors will also be invited to test at the F1 Academy. James Geidl, the president of the COTF, and Susie Wolff will thus try to scout racing talents from an even younger age.
