Max Verstappen and Kelly Piquet's first child together will be born in 2025, however (until now?), it was unknown when the Brazilian would be due. However, former F1 driver and a friend of Verstappen, Giedo van der Garde, might have just revealed the date by when the baby will be born.
It is regularly believed about drivers that once they become parents, they simply become slower. Around three tenths could be added to a lap time as a father. As a father himself, Van der Garde says Verstappen will not be slower in any case.
"Well, the first time [it's] nothing," the current analyst says, when asked about whether Verstappen would lose those tenths in 2025. "No, but the second and third yes. I would like to see that for myself!" he continued during a Viaplay press event.
Van der Garde is happy for Verstappen, and expects him to have a good time, and also not be changed at all on track. "For him, this is something unique to experience. Of course, he already has a little one already living in the house (Penelope, ed.). So that's already super fun for him. But yes, it will be exciting. On the other hand, knowing Max, he will be completely focused on this year, on the first few races."
Baby Verstappen-Piquet coming soon
Finally, Van der Garde reveals a well-kept secret, namely when baby Verstappen-Piquet would be born: "That little one is due sometime in April if all goes well. But yes, he has to do those races anyway," Van der Garde added. Three Grands Prix are set to be hosted in that month in the 2025 season: Japan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
