Lewis Hamilton thinks the new Formula One film, which he is working on as a producer, will broaden F1's horizons. According to the Mercedes driver, this is largely thanks to the sport's current owner, Liberty Media.

"The movie is a huge step in that direction of broadening the horizon. I think that's part of the new leadership with Liberty, with the great work that Stefano and Greg are doing in being open to trying new things," Hamilton said ahead of the US Grand Prix.

"The fact that we're allowed to do this movie and have the concessions in terms of allowing an extra team to be on track and filming with these film stars, it's never been done before. It's great that we are embarking on things that we've never done before," he added.

Hamilton thinks F1 film will provide positive momentum

Hamilton further reveals that the Las Vegas GP will be a key location in the film. "We're really just working as hard as we can to make sure that it's a true reflection of this legendary sport, both the old and the new," the Mercedes driver continued.

The 38-year-old Brit thinks it is a good thing that the sport is now visiting more places in the US and notes that interest from US viewers has increased tremendously. "We've got these great cities here with amazing fan bases in each of them, all providing kind of a different atmosphere. I always felt that we needed more than one race here," said Hamilton.

He says this has everything to do with the timing of races in America. "The complaint was always that people happen to get up at 4 or 5 a.m. in the morning or something in the middle of the night to watch a Grand Prix, so it's really difficult to get into it. And then also it's only coming to the country once a year," he explained.

He therefore thinks that the film, which features lead roles for Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and Javier Bardem, will provide additional impetus. "We do have to continue to grow. And I think the movie particularly is going to help do that. It is the only truly international or global sport. We need to educate more and more people. There are still many people out there that we need to get them to catch the bug," Hamilton concluded.
