Max Verstappen is (with five Grands Prix to go) already a world champion, but he continues to extend his lead in the world championship. Red Bull Racing has made a one-two in the world championship its new goal, but Sergio Perez saw his lead shrink.

The difference between Perez and Hamilton in the World Cup was 30 points at the start of the weekend, but after the sprint race at the Circuit of the Americas, it was down to 27 points. Where Perez finished fifth, the Mercedes driver only had to beat Max Verstappen.

Of the top eight in the world championship, only Fernando Alonso did not score any points in Austin on Saturday. The two-time world champion finished 13th.
