Perez went quickly through his tyres: 'Making sure we can fix that'
Sergio Perez knew a podium was going to be difficult in the sprint race, given his seventh starting position. The Mexican made up two places at COTA, picking up four important points for the World Championship. Nevertheless, he could not prevent his main rival, Lewis Hamilton, from closing in on four points.
After the Sprint Race, Perez spoke to Viaplay on how he felt his race in Austin went. "Yeah, the degradation was a little bit higher than I really wanted, unfortunately. That's something we need to think of and make sure that we can sort that for tomorrow because that would be very important," explained the 33-year-old driver, who faces an even bigger challenge on Sunday, where he has to start from P9 on the grid.
Perez does not really have an explanation as to why the tyre degradation is higher than expected. Still, he thinks Red Bull can improve some things. "Not really. I think we got plenty of information to analyse because definitely there are things that we are doing that are probably hurting us," he said.
Perez's lead over Hamilton in the world championship - with five races and a sprint race to go - is 27 points. Hamilton has another good chance to catch up further on Sunday, as he starts from P3.
