helmut marko on investor's bid for alphatauri

'Helmut Marko turned down bid for AlphaTauri'

The future of the AlphaTauri team in Formula 1 is uncertain. Red Bull Racing's sister team, which often houses juniors from Red Bull's training programme, is going through a difficult period in Formula 1. But Helmut Marko absolutely does not want to sell the Italian team.

AlphaTauri struggles

In 2022, F1 regulations went through a major overhaul. With the new regulations, the so-called ground effect became important again, and AlphaTauri does not seem to have really mastered that. Last year, the Italian team finished disappointingly ninth in the constructors' championship, and this year, the team dangled at the bottom of the standings for a long time until last Sunday. Indeed, Daniel Ricciardo scored six points with his seventh-place finish in the Mexican Grand Prix, and as a result, AlphaTauri climbed to eighth in the championship.

'AlphaTauri not for sale'

Something that is clear is the fact that Red Bull at least does not want to sell the team out completely. Indeed, Red Bull adviser Marko reveals the following to F1-insider.com: "There was our request to sell it to a Czech investor, but that was rejected. AlphaTauri is not for sale".

In 2020, Red Bull's sister team changed its name from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri, but the AlphaTauri name will disappear as early as next year. It is not yet known what the team will be called, but big names like Hugo Boss and Adidas are said to be in the race as title sponsors. Besides the fact that the name of the Italian team will change next year, the team will also have a new leader in the form of Laurent Mekies (coming from Ferrari).
