It is a special weekend of racing: after a long wait, just before the season finale in Abu Dhabi, it is time for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Rather bizarrely, the first free practice session is taking place on a Thursday night. This is a Friday morning for fans in Europe. It is time for the first free practice at the Las Vegas Street Circuit.

Max Verstappen has been the 2023 Formula 1 World Champion for a long time, but there is still something to race for. Currently, the Dutchman has won 17 races, but he could still extend this to 19 wins. But it is not yet certain that Verstappen will win, of course. He and the other drivers may have to deal with rain during the weekend. Besides, it is a new circuit, and so with rain, it could get slippery. It was also predicted that it would be very cold for a long time. It does not seem to be too bad for the drivers, with temperatures above 10 degrees.

Sergio Perez can secure P2 in the World Championship this weekend. He and Lewis Hamilton have been battling for P2 over recent months, and Perez can make it mathematically impossible. This would give Red Bull their first-ever one-two finish in the World Championship. It doesn't seem like a battle Hamilton will win, but he and Mercedes are trying to keep Ferrari in their mirrors. Just 20 points separate the two teams in the Constructors Championship.

Last time out, Brazil hosted the final sprint weekend of the season. In Las Vegas, drivers will get three practice sessions.
