Former Formula One team owner and team boss Eddie Jordan has passed at the age of 76. The motorsport community mourns the esteemed and colourful Irishman, who's had an everlasting impact on the sport.

A family statement read: "Eddie passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20th March 2025 at the age of 76, after battling with an aggressive form of prostate cancer for the past 12 months."

'Forever the dreamer', Eddie Jordan passes at age 76

The new generation of fans will certainly remember him from the entertaining and enlightening Formula For Success podcast, which he hosted with dear friend and former F1 driver, David Coulthard. But Jordan was also a highly accomplished team owner and principal and worked with many grand talents in F1, but also in the feeder series.

Martin Brundle, racing for Jordan, fought Ayrton Senna in what was one of the most epic British Formula 3 championship battles. In F1 the strong-willed Irishman made his debut as team owner and team principal in 1991. He was indeed the man who gave Michael Schumacher his debut in Formula One in the Belgian Grand Prix, where the German qualified in an astounding P7, after which Schumacher was poached by Benetton team principal, Flavio Briatore.

In the mid-90s Jordan Grand Prix racing was a force to be reckoned with, often punching above its weight and challenging McLaren, Ferrari and Williams for the odd win. The team's last Grand Prix win came in 2003.

After many struggles, the team was sold to the Midland Group in 2005 and became MF1 in 2006. In 2007 it exchanged hands again and was named Spyker F1. Then in 2009, after yet another sale, it was known as Force India, which has now become Aston Martin.

Jordan recently revealed he had been battling cancer, in what was an open and heartfelt plea in the Formula for Success podcast, to all his listeners to get checked for the disease, since modern treatments can now give hope to the people suffering from the devastating illness.
