Perez believes he can fight for a place on the podium: ‘We have a fast car’
A recurring result happened in qualifying at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, namely, that Sergio Perez did not qualify for Q3. The Mexican driver finished the session in P12, but will start a place up on the grid after Carlos Sainz’s penalty is applied.
After qualifying in Las Vegas, Sergio Perez said that the race should turn out to be better for him this weekend. "I think tomorrow will be the main objective for us now. We are starting P12, so we've got to understand and learn from what happened yesterday with the tyres and see what we are able to improve for tomorrow. I think we looked a lot stronger on race pace than we did over a single-time lap," the Mexican driver told F1TV.
The Red Bull driver was not happy with his result today. "It was a very bad session for us. Already in Q1, we were compromised a bit with our own program but come to Q2, I think we just finished a little bit too early. There was a bit more track evo there and it was a shame that we just couldn't make the most of it because we seemed to need that little final tenth in it," he summarised what happened.
He also added: "So, a little bit of a shame but on the other hand, there is nothing we can do now. So let's focus on tomorrow and hopefully, we are able to come through the field because we have a fast race car."
